  • Scott Dinger President Read Bio

    Scott Dinger President Scott joined ExL in 2008 and became its President in 2018. Prior to becoming President, Scott served as ExL’s Chief Operating Officer since 2011. Before being promoted to COO, Scott was ExL’s General Counsel.

    Prior to going to work for ExL, Scott was engaged in private law practice for more than six years at the law firms of Cotton, Bledsoe, Tighe & Dawson, P.C. and Fletcher Law Offices, P.C. Scott’s practice focused on examining title to oil and gas properties and working on complex oil and gas transactions involving both ongoing exploration and development operations and the purchase and sale of production oil and gas properties. Prior to attending law school, Scott worked in his family’s various oil and gas related businesses in Odessa, Texas.

    Scott’s expertise lies in the area of oil and gas law, title examination and the negotiation and structuring of oil and gas transactions for all phases of oil and gas exploration, development and production, and the oil and gas business in general.

  • Matthew L. Cooper Vice President of Legal and General Counsel Read Bio

    Matthew L. Cooper Vice President of Legal and General Counsel Matt joined ExL in 2011 and is its Vice President of Legal and General Counsel. Before being promoted to Vice President in 2018, Matt served in several capacities at ExL including Land Manager and Senior Attorney.

    Prior to coming to ExL, Matt practiced law for over 9 years at the law firms of Cotton, Bledsoe, Tighe and Dawson, P.C. and Kelly Hart & Hallman LLP. Matt’s law practice involved work in oil and gas lending, business entities, real estate, asset transactions, and civil litigation.

    At ExL, Matt oversees and provides for the legal needs of the company, including negotiating and drafting contracts, acquisitions and divestitures, assisting the President with corporate governance and labor issues, assisting the CFO with insurance matters and risk management procedures, and managing inside and outside legal counsel.

  • Chris Aycock Vice President of Land Read Bio

    Chris Aycock Vice President of Land Chris joined ExL in 2015 and currently services as its Vice President of Land. Before being promoted to Vice President in 2018, Chris was ExL’s Land Manager.

    Prior to joining ExL, Chris was a shareholder in the law firm of Cotton, Bledsoe, Tighe & Dawson, P.C. where his practice focused on complex oil and gas litigation, mediations, and transactions. While at Cotton Bledsoe, Chris held various leadership positions in the firm, including serving on the firm’s Board of Directors and as its President.

    Chris and his wife, Sonya, both grew up on farms in the small Panhandle town of Farwell. They have lived in Midland since 1996 where Chris has been active in community involvement. He has served as an adjunct professor in the Midland College Legal assistant training program and often speaks at various professional education seminars. He is an Assistant Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 160 and served as President of the Board of Trustees for Trinity School of Midland. He also serves in several leadership roles at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church. He is an Eagle Scout and a licensed pilot holding a Senior Pilot Rating in the Commemorative Air Force.

    As Vice President of Land, Chris oversees all aspects of the Land Department and land-related business, including lease acquisition, right-of-way, and surface owner relations.

    Chris graduated from the Baylor University School of Law in 1996. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree, magna cum laude, from Texas Tech University. Chris is licensed to practice law before all Texas courts, the United States Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and multiple federal district courts.

  • Kevin Cartwright Vice President of Business Development Read Bio

    Kevin Cartwright Vice President of Business Development Kevin joined ExL in 2014. In 2018, Kevin became Vice President of Business Development. Before being promoted to Vice President, Kevin was ExL’s Business Development Manager.

    Prior to coming to ExL, Kevin spent more than three years working for Occidental Petroleum Corporation in their Permian Business Development Group where he was involved in the evaluation, due diligence, and closing of numerous oil and gas transactions. Before his time at Oxy, Kevin worked for over six years as a landman for Petro-Hunt, LLC and Mewbourne Oil Company.

    At ExL, Kevin manages acquisitions and divestitures and works to identify and develop new business opportunities.

  • Kregg Conder Vice President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer Read Bio

    Kregg Conder Vice President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer Kregg joined ExL in 2011 as its Chief Financial Officer. In 2018, Kregg was promoted to Vice President and, in addition to acting as ExL’s CFO, Kregg serves the Board of Directors as Corporate Secretary.

    Prior to coming to ExL, Kregg worked for 25 years for Warren Equipment Company, serving the last 10 years as its Vice President of Finance and Treasurer. In this capacity, Kregg was responsible for capital financing and credit relationships, financial forecasting and planning, treasury services, and consolidated accounting. Before his time at Warren, Kregg worked for three years in public accounting in Fort Worth and Amarillo, Texas.

    Kregg’s functions at ExL include capital procurement and management, financial modeling, accounting oversight, and other financial services.

  • James M. Davis, Jr. Vice President of Legal and Oil & Gas Counsel Read Bio

    James M. Davis, Jr. Vice President of Legal and Oil & Gas Counsel Jim joined ExL in 2013 and currently serves as its Vice President of Legal and Oil and Gas Counsel. Before being promoted to Vice President in 2018, Jim assisted in the management of the Land Department and acted as ExL’s in-house Oil and Gas Counsel.

    Prior to attending law school, Jim was a financial analyst at Conoco Inc. for 3 ½ years. Before joining ExL, Jim practiced law for 16 years at the law firm of Cotton, Bledsoe, Tighe & Dawson, P.C. Jim was a shareholder of the law firm and served as a director of the firm for several years. Jim’s law practice was focused primarily on complex oil and gas title examination and related matters. Jim also has experience with oil and gas purchase, sale, and financing transactions.

    At ExL, Jim provides legal counsel related to oil and gas title issues, lease acquisition, lease maintenance, and other oil and gas related legal matters. Jim also assists the General Counsel with acquisitions and divestitures, reviewing and drafting contracts, and reviewing and managing the work of the members of the land department.

    Jim graduated from the Texas Tech University School of Law, with Honors, in 1997. He also holds a bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Economics from Texas Tech University (1989) and a master’s degree in business administration from Texas Tech University (1990). Jim is licensed to practice law in Texas and New Mexico. Jim is also Board Certified in Oil, Gas and Mineral Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.

  • Monte S. Fryt Vice President of Geosciences Read Bio

    Monte S. Fryt Vice President of Geosciences Monte joined ExL in 2015, after retiring from EOG Resources, as ExL’s Vice President of Geosciences. In this role, Monte uses his extensive experience to manage all aspects of ExL’s Geosciences Department, including geology and petrophysics.

    He began his career with Schlumberger Well Services where he worked until mid-1981. Immediately thereafter he formed a small exploration and production company in Denver. After the oil price crash of 1986 he went to work for the U.S. subsidiary of Canadian Hunter Exploration Ltd in their Denver office, and in 1993 was recruited by the Anschutz Corporation also in Denver. In 2004 he became V.P. of Engineering at Hunter Energy in Denver and in February 2010 was recruited by EOG Resources in Midland, Texas.

    Monte’s technical experience is substantial in both conventional and unconventional reservoirs including carbonates, tight gas sands, and mudrock resource plays. He has worked in most basins of the United States and western Canada and internationally. At EOG, he was at the forefront of leading edge technology in petrophysics, geomechanics, completions, micro-seismic, digital rock physics, and reservoir engineering/reserve evaluation.

    In addition to earning an MBA, he has extensive business experience gained through forming and running his own company, working very closely with Mr. Philip Anshutz, and being an officer of Hunter Energy. He is also a specialist in leading and managing multi-disciplinary teams with the ultimate objective of creating large positive bottom line impact on performance and business growth.

    Monte graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1971 with a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering and in 1988 obtained an MBA from the University of Colorado at Denver. He is a NCEES certified and registered Professional Engineer in the states of Colorado and Texas.

  • Michael Mingoia Vice President of Engineering Read Bio

    Michael Mingoia Vice President of Engineering Michael joined ExL in 2015 and serves as ExL’s Vice President of Engineering. Before being promoted to Vice President in 2018, Michael was ExL’s Senior Business Development Engineer.

    Prior to joining ExL, Michael worked for the energy group of Moelis & Company, a boutique investment bank. He also worked for Albrecht & Associates, an acquisition and divestment firm specializing in assisting clients in the sales of upstream oil & gas assets. Michael’s expertise lies in the economic evaluation of oil and gas assets.

    Michael is a 2000 graduate of The University of Texas at Austin with a B.S. in Petroleum Engineering. He is a licensed professional engineer in the state of Texas.

  • L. Dan Varner Vice President of Operations & Production Read Bio

    L. Dan Varner Vice President of Operations & Production Dan Varner joined ExL in 2011 and is the Vice President of Operations and Production. In this role, he oversees all operational business, including drilling, completions, facilities, infrastructure, and production related matters. Before being promoted to Vice President in 2018, Dan served in the following positions at ExL: Project Engineer, Production Engineer, and Engineering Manager.

    Dan graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1999. He began working in the downstream business in Houston’s ship channel as a Plant Engineer and Maintenance/Reliability Engineer in the power generation, petroleum refining, and petro-chemical industries. During that time, he earned his Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Texas A&M University in 2006.

    He and his wife, Jennifer, moved to West Texas with their two young sons in 2007 to pursue a career in the oilfield with Henry Petroleum. During this time, he focused on the emerging Spraberry Trend as a drilling engineer for Henry. When Henry sold its south Midland Basin assets to Concho Oil & Gas in 2008, Dan joined Concho and continued working in drilling, but was also exposed to facilities/infrastructure, completions, and production. Dan is active in the community having served on the School Board for St. Ann’s Catholic School and assisting the St. Ann’s Athletic Department as a volunteer coach.

    Dan’s expertise lies in the area of oil and gas operations—drilling, completions, production, and project management for the oil and gas business in general. Dan is also heavily involved in pre-acquisition asset evaluation and works closely with the Land Department to develop the drilling program.

  • David L. Feavel Board Member & Technical Advisor Read Bio

    David L. Feavel Board Member & Technical Advisor Dave, along with Douglass Robison and Michael LaMonica, formed ExL Petroleum LP in August, 2005.

    Prior to founding ExL, he was employed by Houston Oil & Minerals from 1976 to 1981, was a partner in High Plains Exploration from 1981 to 1986, and had numerous leadership roles at Henry Petroleum LP from 1986 to 2005.

    Dave has extensive experience in exploration, development, and production geology, both as a generator and a manager. Dave has a strong background in project management evidenced by his performance as project manager for all aspects of Henry’s Wolfberry play, specifically geology and including land, partner relations, drilling and completion of wells, the acquisition of 200,000 acres of leasehold representing over 1700 viable Wolfberry locations, and the location and drilling of 200 plus producing Wolfberry wells prior to his departure to form ExL.

  • Douglass C. Robison Executive Chair of the Board Read Bio

    Douglass C. Robison Executive Chair of the Board Doug, along with David Feavel and Michael LaMonica, formed ExL Petroleum LP in August, 2005.

    Prior to founding ExL, Doug was employed by Exxon USA from 1982 to 1996. From 1996 until 2005, Doug served as General Counsel and Chief Negotiator for Henry Petroleum LP.

    Doug’s expertise lies in the areas of oil and gas law, transaction law and the negotiation of complex oil and gas projects, and all phases of oil and gas exploration and production. Doug negotiated the majority of all the key leasehold positions of Henry’s Wolfberry play, resulting in the acquisition of 200,000 acres of leasehold representing over 1700 viable Wolfberry locations, and the subsequent drilling of 200 plus producing Wolfberry wells prior to his departure from ExL.

    Doug serves on multiple industry, local and state committees, including the Texas Energy Planning Council and the Texas Oilfield Cleanup Advisory Committee. Doug is immediate Past Chairman of the Permian Basin Petroleum Association and serves on the Executive Board for the Texas Oil and Gas Association.

    Doug is also very active in community and charitable endeavors. He formed the Bison Foundation which provides resources to underprivileged youth. He also is significantly involved with China Aid and is Chairman of the NEXT Lab Oversight Committee at Abilene Christian University.

    Doug is a 1979 graduate of the Texas Tech University with a B.A. degree in Business Administration. He received his J.D. from Texas Tech University School of Law and is licensed by the State Bar of Texas.

Mike LaMonicaBoard Technical Advisor – Mike is a 1978 graduate of Oklahoma State University with a B.S. degree in Petroleum Engineering Technology. A former partner, Mike has more than 40 years of experience in drilling, operations, production, and reservoir engineering. He drilled more than 600 Spraberry and Wolfberry wells and supervised all the operations and production thereafter.

Mike LangfordDrilling Manager – Mike is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma and has more than 35 years of drilling experience in the US as well as internationally

Jim StevensSenior Petroleum Engineer - Jim is a 1980 graduate of the Louisiana State University with a B.S in Petroleum Engineering. Jim has more than 35 years of experiencein all phases of drilling, completion and production operations.

Geology

Joe VillalobosSenior Geologist – Joe received a B.S. in Geology from the University of Texas at El Paso in May 1981. Joe has 35 years of experience and has spent the last 12+ years focusing on the Bone Spring and Wolfcamp unconventional reservoirs in the Delaware Basin. Joe was an integral part of the team credited with the discovery of the Leonard-Avalon Shale play.

David GraceExploration Manager – David is a 1987 graduate of Texas Christian University with a B.S. in Geology. For more than 25 years David has worked in and been instrumental in the development of the Wolfberry and Wolfbone plays.

Business Development

Trevor ElzaSenior Financial Analyst – Trevor graduated from Hardin-Simmons University with a BBA in Finance and Economics. He completed the Financial Planning program at Rice University. Before joining ExL in 2014, he spent 7 years in federal tax preparation and investment analysis.

Accounting

Heidi StoneController – Heidi earned a BBA and MBA in Accounting from Angelo State University and is a licensed CPA in the state of Texas. Prior to joining ExL in 2012, Heidi had ten years of experience in financial accounting and reporting, consolidated tax reporting, and treasury services.
